Designing for Textiles covers a wide range of activities from traditional and contemporary craftsmanship to fashion and furnishing collection for interior design. As well as research into, and the development and use of new and old materials that can be applied within these disciplines.
Degree requirement for this program is:
- Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary/Intermediate Examination or its equivalent from any recognized institution, with a minimum of second division (45% marks) are eligible to appear for the admission test, for the Department of Fine Art, Faculty of Design, Department of Architecture, Department of Musicology or Department of Film and Television. Students with third division may not apply.
It is important for students to work as a team, as they are required to interact with people from the industry, designers, technicians, crafts people and the community. Assignments are planned with the aim of developing skills, analytical thinking, observation and communication. Students develop perception and the required skills to create designs suitable for specific fields including interiors and apparel. Research is conducted on contemporary textiles to develop awareness of the local and global markets.
