The Bachelor of Technology (BTech) is a four year inter-faculty degree that will enable you to study a specialist technological subject and internationally important area of technology in greater depth than covered in the more general Bachelor of Science. It will also provide you with an understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship, making you highly sought after both in New Zealand and around the world where there is strong demand for researchers, technical developers, inventors, innovators and science managers in the growing technological job markets. Each BTech specialisation involves a specified set of courses drawn from different faculties and teaching specialists in these areas. This provides a comprehensive programme of study for each technology.
Degree requirement for this program are:
- High School graduation (12 years of school education)
The BTech specialisations have been designed in consultation with industry representatives and are supported by active research at the University. In your fourth and final year you will undertake a project working within one of these research areas, either through the University or a local industry or company. All of this ensures that as a graduate you are well prepared for employment and research in your selected specialisation. Often students have work lined up for them when they finish their degree, enabled by the networking opportunities and work experience that the project provides. You will have good employment prospects or the opportunity to complete your MSc within one year of the BTech, and from there move into a PhD.
