Bioinformatics combines mathematics, science, and engineering to explore and understand biological data from high-throughput experiments, such as genome sequencing and gene expression chips.he undergraduate bioinformatics degree program prepares students for graduate school or a career in the fast-paced pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
The undergraduate degree program in bioinformatics builds a solid foundation in the constituent areas of the field. Students complete core sequences in mathematics (including calculus, statistics, and discrete mathematics), science (including biology, chemistry, and biochemistry), and engineering (including programming, algorithms, and databases). All students take core bioinformatics courses and study the ethical, legal, and social implications of this new technology.
Degree requirement for this program is
- Intermediate with Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and ICS or equivalent and minimum 50% marks, from an accredited institution.
With a BSc in Bioinformatics, graduates are well-prepared to work directly or indirectly in the health discoveries being made through offshoots of the Human Genome Project and related fields. Students trained in bioinformatics are in high demand in academia and private industry. Students are also encouraged to pursue graduate study beyond the BS and apply their computational and biological backgrounds to an area of expertise that prepares them for a research career or entry into the health professions.
