The English Literature Program at department of Liberal Arts is committed to such an atmosphere where class sizes are generally under 15 and undergraduates take some of their courses with graduates and other departments to integrate the concerns of other fields into their English studies. Aesthetic, rhetorical, cultural and philosophic values are built on a system of critique and analysis of literature. Students encounter the richness of English poetry, drama and prose fiction, from all periods and genres. Diversity is added through courses in languages, comparative literature, creative writing and critical theory. The range of the program propagates improved research and writing skills, close readings of primary and secondary texts and ultimately developing increased sensitivity of humanistic knowledge.
Degree program for this course are:
- FA / F.Sc with at least 2nd division (i.e. 495 marks).
- O-levels (in at least 8 subjects)
- 3 A-levels with at least an average of C-grade. Advanced Subsidiary (AS) will not be taken into account.
- International Baccalaureate High School Diploma result with at least 2.5 CGPA and equivalence certificate from IBCC
Most English major students proceed to their graduate study in English; pursue a professional study in fields such as law, business, journalism, education; join the civil services; teach in schools; or simply enjoy the aesthetic study of literature and language
